ALL In STEM: High School Activities of the WeAreHERe Project

The ALL-In STEM format is part of the WeAreHERe initiative, a project from the Politecnico di Torino aimed at promoting equal opportunities and inclusion in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) disciplines by actively engaging high school students.

The project, designed to challenge gender stereotypes that influence study choices, primarily targets fifth-year students, but it is also open to fourth-year students.

At the heart of the ALL-In STEM format is the creation of a proactive and engaging environment using interactive tools like quizzes and gamification.

The goal is to raise awareness among young people about gender disparities in technological and scientific careers, inspiring the next generation of students to consider a STEM career.

Activities take place directly in schools, with the support of a Politecnico scholarship student who leads the process.

In the first phase, the student presents the WeAreHERe project and shares their personal experience to motivate participants. This phase also includes a motivational video highlighting the opportunities offered by STEM careers.

In the second phase, students participate in an interactive quiz that encourages them to reflect on gender disparities in STEM academia and professions. The quiz, both fun and educational, promotes greater awareness of the issues related to women’s careers in this field.

In the third phase, we open a debate. It’s the perfect moment to exchange ideas, find solutions, and work together to break down the invisible barriers that still keep us too far from the STEM world.

In short, it’s an experience that makes you think, involves you, and shows things from a new perspective. At the end, there are PoliTO prizes and gadgets, and most importantly, the feeling of having made a difference!

It’s not just a lesson: it’s a way to change the future!
