Dear student, welcome to Poli!
Among the countless factors that influence our choices, one is the expectation of how
accepted and at home we will feel in a certain place, and how much that place will help us
grow while respecting and encouraging us.
The Politecnico di Torino is a place for growth, and we want it to be a place where you feel
welcomed.
Growth is never easy. Challenges are a part of all careers and all passions.
You have chosen to study Engineering, even though the number of women choosing STEM
disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is still low (but growing)
and society is slow to fully accept the figure of a female scientist (here too, things are
changing!). The path you have chosen demonstrates your determination.
It is a path that many other women before you have already completed with great success.
It will be a journey we will take together! At times, you may feel unsure or have doubts, but
we are here to tell you that we can be so many things.
This is why WeAreHERe was created – we are here, we are her – the community of women
engineering students. WeAreHERe is the correction of a wrong narrative, the story that says
engineering is not a job for women.
WeAreHERe is this and much more. But above all, WeAreHERe is us. It’s you. A network of
women, of students who are experiencing this wonderful journey.
We already held an in-person meeting on October 2nd, and we will have many more
throughout the academic year. It will be a great opportunity to meet other students like you
and get to know each other as a community.
Among this year’s activities is the mentoring project: every first-year student can request a
mentor, an older student who has chosen the same field of study and can help you take your
first steps in this new world of engineering.
To request a mentor, click on this link and fill out the form: https://form.typeform.com/to/YY1cuc90.
You will be contacted soon by one of us.
To stay updated on our events, follow the WeAreHERe Instagram profile at
https://www.instagram.com/weareherepolito/; these days, we are sharing useful information
on how to tackle the first year.
See you soon!
